29/6/2007 Windows Live Messenger not signing in with Vista error code: 81000306
Problem:
Windows Live Messenger failing to sign in while running under Vista operating system.

Resolution:
See the solution on this link http://www.dotcomunderground.com/blogs/2007/03/18/msn-error-code-81000306-fix/
by running the following command as Administrator (right click on the cmd program and run as administrator) from the run command off the start menu and  it should fix the problem:
regsvr32 Softpub.dll Mssip32.dll Initpki.dll

3/7/2007 WMS Idle shutdown error
Problem:
A number of machines with Microsoft Outlook installed would show the usual Not responding End Now window for WMS Idle while shuting down.

Resolution:
If Nero cd burning software is installed chances are that a Nero componet called  NMBgMonitor loads up on startup.  Disable this using msconfig or Windows Startup Inspector (see software links on this site) and you will most likely fix the problem.  MS Communicator has also been blamed for the problem in some instances.

22/8/2007 Office 97 Word under Windows XP - file opening problem
Problem:
In some cases where MS Office is loaded, on a Windows XP computer, and you open a Word document by double clicking on the icon for that document an error comes up "X.doc is being used by User X. Do you want to make a copy?" even if User X has not opened the file.

Resolution:
Click on the Start button then the Run menu item and type in the following command, then click the OK:
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\WINWORD.EXE" /unregserver

Then click Run again and type in this command and press the OK button:
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\WINWORD.EXE" /regserver

this will cure the problem.

I recommend that you do the same for Excel with the same command. But replacing WINWORD.EXE with EXCEL.EXE in the command line.
